To better respect your privacy and manage how the university communicates with you, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) has introduced a new Global SMS Consent feature on myUAH.

Why is this changing?

Currently, different university platforms manage text messaging separately. Our goal is to create a single "source of truth" for your communication preferences. Moving forward, as campus systems and third-party vendors update, they will look to this central setting to honor your text-messaging choices.

Key Details to Know:

  • It’s Phased: Right now, we are only focusing on capturing your baseline preferences.
  • Gradual Rollout: Third-party communication tools (starting with student success platforms like EAB) will begin adopting this central system over time. Because of this, you may not see immediate changes in your text preferences across every single vendor right away.
  • No Interruptions: You won't be blocked by a mandatory pop-up when you log in. The card sits on your myUAH dashboard for you to access at your convenience.
  • Emergency Alerts are Separate: This tool is strictly for standard campus updates. Official emergency alerts (UAH Alerts) use an entirely separate system and will not be affected by your choices here.

How to update your preferences:

  1. Log into my.uah.edu
  2. Locate the SMS Consent card on your dashboard.
  3. Select your preferred text messaging options and save. You can return to this card to update your settings at any time.

Note for Students: If you wish to receive important updates, reminders, and advising communications via text from campus platforms like EAB, please ensure you opt-in on this card.

If you have any questions or need assistance finding the new card, please contact the OIT Help Desk at helpdesk@uah.edu or 256-824-3333.
