UAH is aware of a cybersecurity incident affecting Instructure, the company that operates UAH’s learning management system, Canvas.
It is important to note that this was a vendor-level event affecting Instructure’s broader infrastructure; it was not a direct attack on UAH information systems. At this time, Canvas services for UAH remain fully operational.
What Happened
On May 1, 2026, Instructure disclosed a cybersecurity incident that is currently under investigation. For the most up-to-date technical details and official status reports, please visit status.instructure.com.
What UAH Is Doing
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) and the Enhanced Teaching and Learning Center (ETLC) are actively monitoring the situation and are in direct communication with Instructure to identify any specific impacts on UAH data or accounts. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
What You Should Do
- Stay up to date: Up-to-date technical details and official status reports from Instructure are available at their investigation site status.instructure.com
- Beware of Phishing: Cybersecurity incidents often trigger a surge in "follow-up" phishing attempts. Be skeptical of unsolicited emails—even those that look official—claiming to be from Canvas, Instructure, or UAH Support.
- Verify Links: Do not click links in emails to log in. Always access Canvas directly via my.uah.edu or by typing canvas.uah.edu into your browser.
