Dear UAH Community,
Andrew Moffatt, a research engineer in the UAH Rotorcraft Systems Engineering & Simulation Center (RSESC), died in a private plane crash late last week while returning home from a family funeral.
A UAH alumnus, Andrew joined the RSESC in 2021. He was well known and deeply valued by his colleagues. “Andrew was a well-rounded and fine young man, and his spirit made every day an enjoyable day,” said Jerry Hendrix, executive director of RSESC, noting that Andrew was always willing to serve UAH, the soldier and his colleagues. “We will never forget his smile, inviting personality and his encouragement. He will be missed.”
This tragic accident also involved members of Andrew’s family, including his father, mother and brother. His father, James “Tony” Moffatt, was a retired Army aviator. He previously worked in digital engineering at UAH and supported the RSESC.
Counseling services are available for those in the UAH community who need support during this time. Details are provided below.
Additional information, including memorial arrangements, will be shared as it becomes available.
We ask that you keep the Moffatt family and the entire RSESC staff in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
