As we continue to move forward with UAH Mission Accessible, this update provides essential reminders, tools and training opportunities to help you create and maintain accessible digital content.
PDF Decision Tree
Do you really need to use a PDF? Or is there an alternative option? The ETLC has created this PDF Decision Tree to help you determine the best format for sharing and maintaining accessible content.
![Snippet of PDF Decision Tree resource document. Title: PDF Decision Tree. Paragraph: Use this guide to choose the best format for sharing and maintaining accessible content. If you are publishing content online, especially for students, employees, or the public, ask yourself: Does this need to be a PDF? In most cases, the answer is no. A table underneath provides a decision tree. Question 1. Is the PDF currently used? [If yes] Continue to Question 2. [If no] Consider deleting, or archiving the document. Question 2. Is the document content updated or changed at least once per year, or more often? [If yes] Do not use a PDF. The PDF must be rechecked and fixed each time it changes, which makes PDFs inefficient to maintain. Consider Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or HTML (Canvas Page) instead. [If no] Go to Question 3. Question 3. Was the original file created in Microsoft Office? [If yes] Continue to Question 4. Remainder of document is torn at the bottom.](/images/FS_Announcements/PDF_decision_tree_snippet_reduced.jpg)
