Register Now: Alabama Shield disaster response exercise

Alabama Shield is a statewide unmanned disaster response exercise taking place during the week of August 3, 2026, at the UAH Huntsville Test Range, located just west of Huntsville International Airport.

Hosted by The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), Alabama Shield is designed to bring agencies and teams together to strengthen disaster response readiness through hands-on training, stakeholder coordination, and a realistic tornado-based search-and-rescue scenario. The exercise will help participants prepare for broader hazards Alabama may face, including flooding, hurricane-related impacts, and other complex emergencies.

As the first exercise of its kind in Alabama, Alabama Shield will feature training lanes and presentations led by subject matter experts who will share practical tactics, operational lessons, and best practices from the field. Participants will have the opportunity to build relationships across agencies, improve operational coordination, and better understand how unmanned systems can support real-world disaster response. We are also actively pursuing continuing education credits for participants and expect an answer by the end of the month.

This event is not open to the public but only to first responders and government employees.
