Dear Charger Family,

Purpose. Excellence. Service. Innovation. These are the values that have guided me throughout my life — and the same values I brought with me to The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Over the past five years, we have accomplished so much together. We’ve redefined our purpose. We’ve pursued excellence in everything we do. We’ve led through service. And we’ve launched innovative initiatives that will propel us into a brighter future. I am so proud of these accomplishments, this university and the positive momentum we have created together.

After much reflection, I’ve made the decision to retire as president of UAH, effective May 2026.

Serving as your president has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I remain deeply grateful to the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees and UA System leadership for the opportunity to serve this incredible institution during such a dynamic and pivotal time.

Together, we’ve recruited outstanding students from across the Tennessee Valley and around the globe. Our research enterprise has achieved significant growth. We’ve cultivated a winning culture — both in athletics and across campus life. I have every confidence in the strength and momentum of UAH, and I know the foundation we’ve built together will support continued progress for years to come.

Jodie and I have often said that Huntsville is a remarkable city, and UAH is a truly special place. Thank you for sharing this institution with our family. We have made lifelong memories and formed lasting friendships with so many brilliant people along the way. Representing you — this faculty, staff, and student body — has been a dream I will always cherish.

In the coming months, there will be time for proper goodbyes and opportunities for me to adequately express my gratitude to you. For now, please know how deeply appreciative I am of your support, your work and your partnership over the years. I look forward to seeing many of you throughout the next eight months.

You are an extraordinary group of people who care deeply about our mission and our students. Thank you for the privilege of serving alongside you.

Go Chargers!

With sincere gratitude,

Chuck Karr

President
