Dear Colleagues,
Dean Shankar Mahalingam has announced that he will be stepping down as dean of the College of Engineering and retiring from UAH during the spring 2026 semester.
Dr. Mahalingam has faithfully served the college and university for 15 years. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the institution, maintained academic standards, and provided much-needed stability during periods of university adversity and transition. I won’t catalog his many accomplishments here, but rather will focus on how the relationships he established within the university community and his dedication to the day-to-day operations of the college have provided a strong foundation upon which further advancement can be built.
I will be initiating a national search for a new dean this fall, with the goal of having someone in place during the summer of 2026. Dr. Mahalingam is fully committed to his duties as dean, and we will work together for a smooth transition in leadership.
Please join me in thanking Dr. Mahalingam for his many years of dedication to the College of Engineering and The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Go Chargers!
Dr. David Puleo
