UAH faculty, staff and students,
Sam Baldwin, Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Communications, passed away unexpectedly this past weekend. Sam joined UAH during the 2014-15 academic year as the Coordinator of Athletic Communications. He rose through the ranks and ultimately was promoted to the department’s leadership team as the Director of Athletic Communications and then into his last position.
Sam grew the UAH Chargers brand with his stellar communications skills in media relations, website development and social media. Fans often commented that the Chargers social media accounts and video production were engaging and exciting.
Dr. Cade Smith, Director of Athletics, had this to say: "This is devastating for all of us who loved Sam. Sam was a great employee who loved the Chargers. Sam made us better. Most importantly, he was good friend. He will be missed and he has left a void that will be hard to fill. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."
As an avid sports lover, Sam cheered for Cleveland professional teams. He also worked as an official scorer and game day stringer with the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
A native of Willoughby, Ohio, Sam earned a master's degree in Sport Administration from the University of Akron and a bachelor's degree in Sport Management from the University of Tampa. Sam was a member of the College Sports Communicators Association.

A memorial service for Sam will be held on Friday, June 27, at 12:30 p.m. in the Varsity Room at Spragins Hall. We ask that you keep the entire UAH Athletics Department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
