The Academic Success Advocacy Program (ASAP) office is excited to announce the launch of UAH’s Basic Needs website—a one-stop hub connecting students to essential resources that help them thrive both on and off campus.

The site covers key areas like:

  • Academic
  • Financial
  • Food
  • Housing
  • Physical & Mental Health
  • Safety
  • Transportation
  • Family Assistance
  • Additional Assistance

Here’s how you can make a difference:

The new Basic Needs website has replaced the financial support page previously hosted elsewhere. Please start directing students to the updated site.

If you know of additional local, state, or national resources to include, email recommendations to asap@uah.edu. Many community resources, like the United Way's 211 and the Alabama Food Bank Network, are linked indirectly.

Why This Matters:

In a recent survey of 1,211 undergraduates, 50% reported high financial stress.

Among those with medium to high stress:

  • 22% worried about tuition.
  • 6% were concerned about food insecurity.
  • 3% faced housing insecurity.

These numbers emphasize the need for accessible resources. The Dean of Students Office offers Basic Needs Consultations—students can connect via dos@uah.edu or through this form.

Your support will help make this site an essential resource for students facing challenges.

A Special Note of Thanks:

We want to share our appreciation with everyone who contributed to the development of this site, including Katie Green, Karessa Acosta Lee, Scott Royce, Ronnie Hebert, Andrea Thompson, David Heenan, Sieanna Hart, and Raven McCall.
