The Capitol Scholars Program is an immersive summer internship program in Washington, D.C., for exceptional University of Alabama System students who plan to pursue a career opportunity in or around the federal government. This curated experience is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of government, introducing them to various positions in the field and expanding their view of governmental affairs.
Capitol Scholars will participate in intensive internships and experiential learning opportunities with offices throughout D.C., such as members of the Alabama congressional delegation, congressional committee offices and governmental affairs agencies. While in D.C., Capitol Scholars will develop leadership skills, learn the art of policy research, analysis and advocacy, as well as be exposed to high-impact professional experiences such as networking opportunities with policy experts, governmental officials, and UA System alumni.
The program’s purpose is two-fold:
- To provide an immersive summer internship program in Washington, D.C., designed to provide exceptional UA System students interested in careers in and around government with life changing, merit-based opportunities by allowing them to access roles in our nation’s capital.
- To develop a network of intelligent, diligent, civic-minded UA System alumni who are passionate about serving the state of Alabama.
