November 9th and 10th are two days everyone wants to go back too! The Brothers of Sigma Nu and their dates’ ran off to Chattanooga for their annual Formal. They may have came back penniless, but showed the town a good time!
On November 3rd Sigma Nu held a family weekend cookout. Every brothers’ parents were invited to the fraternity house to enjoy games and food. It was exciting for the brothers to meet one another’s parents, and for the parents to see the great people their sons are around every day. Everyone seemed happy to realize that their son’s were surrounded by other students who truly brought out the best in them. Brothers and parents are all looking forward to the next one!
On October 30th 2012, the brothers of Sigma Nu put on a Slide Show, an annual tradition. It’s a great chance for all the friends, upcoming candidates, and brothers of Sigma Nu to see the accomplishments as well as the wild things which occurred throughout the previous year.
One of the most anticipated events for the entire Greek system of UAH is Squeal Night. During this night each fraternity’s pledging class puts on an entertaining performance for each sorority. The candidates of Sigma Nu separated into three groups and put on a dance to a total of 9 of the most popular songs. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the performance. Being the gentlemen they are, each Candidate gave the girls a rose and a ring pop, flattering them with their best pick-up line. The event was a huge success and a night to be remembered.
Bachelor auction is one of Sigma Nu’s favorite events. Each member of the candidate class got in front of the audience and preformed a skit with the intention of impressing everyone in attendance. Each candidate collected donations from local stores and promised 8 hours of their time to whomever bought them. After hearing what the candidate had to offer they were auctioned off to the audience. All $850 raised went to Pat Mirandy, whose house was burned down.
On September 29, 2012, Sigma Nu held a golf tournament in order to raise money for Saint Jude Children’s hospital. 36 players participated in the tournament held at Municipal golf course in Huntsville Alabama. After a great day on the course and an excellent meal, we were able to donate $950 to Saint Jude’s!
The Brotherhood Retreat may be the most anticipated event of the year. On September 29, 2012, The fall candidates of Sigma Nu and the brothers went camping after a long day of working a golf tournament. During the trip the candidates got to meet their fraternal big brother. The night was spent sitting around a campfire telling stories. These are the nights we will all look back on.
The Sigma Nu Alpha Affiliate Award is an award given to an outstanding Brother nationwide. In 2012 The Mu Beta chapter at UAH was honored to have a brother chosen for this prestigious award. Andy Hazen Majored in Optical Engineering and ended with an Overall GPA: 3.469/4.0. While in school he was also involved in SGA (President and Vice President), Lancers, Charger Chasers, Compass Orientation Counselor, Sigma Nu Fraternity (Reporter and LEAD Development Program), IFC Delegate, IEEE, HEOS, OSA, and SPIE.
Wounded Warrior 2012
On April 14, 2012, UAH’s Mu Beta chapter of Sigma Nu hosted a 5k walk to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrior Project is one of Sigma Nu Fraternity’s national philanthropic partners. They host events in which the proceeds go to disabled veterans. Over 100 people participated in the walk. The food, door prizes, and gift bags were donated by local businesses and restaurants in the Huntsville area. We are proud to say that $4,300 were raised and donated to the Wounded Warrior Project
On February 24th 2012, UAH’s Mu Beta chapter of Sigma Nu hosted our 20 year anniversary. Over 100 people attended the event, including former Sigma Nu Vice Regent Tony Marable, who spoke. Also in attendance Mu Beta 1, along with many other founding fathers and alumni of our chapter. The celebration was held at the Holiday Inn at Research Park, where we were originally granted our Charter.
