In today's world, with limited budgets, it's important to use every piece of hardware possible. At The University of Alabama in Huntsville, scientists are pulling the flight spare of the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS, pronounced "Liz") out of the mothball closet and giving it a chance to fly. Both sensors were manufactured for a 1997 mission, and the original LIS is still observing lightning from space.
