Three online degree programs at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) are recognized in the U.S. News & World Report national rankings of online college programs released today. UAH graduate programs in computer information technology, engineering and education made the list. UAH is a part of The University of Alabama System.

U.S. News assessed online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at 1,752 colleges and universities and ranked 1,680 of them for the 2024 U.S. News Best Online Programs. Eligible programs are offered predominantly online. These rankings do not include blended learning programs.

UAH ranked #47 (tie) out of 92 in Best Online Master’s in Computer Information Technology Programs.

UAH’s graduate engineering program ranked #84-109 in Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs.

UAH’s graduate education program ranked #229-303 in Best Online Master’s in Education Programs.

U.S. News says it ranks schools according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence:

“These rankings do not use standardized tests, instead relying on other factors such as faculty credentials and training, services and technologies available to students, student engagement and expert opinion on the academic quality of programs. Master's degree programs, in addition to these criteria, are also ranked based on assessment of student excellence via undergraduate GPAs, acceptance rates and work experience.”

U.S. News explains its criteria for designating an online program:

“Blended learning programs – a combination of both face-to-face and distance education – are not included in the rankings. To be eligible, a program needs to be predominately online, without recurrent in-person attendance requirements for instruction.”
