This morning, Dr. Robert Altenkirch, President of The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), delivered his State of the University address to The Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama, whose spring meeting was held on the UAH campus on April 9 and 10.

In his address, Dr. Altenkirch presented the newest members of the university's leadership team: Dr. Marsha Adams, Dean of the College of Nursing; Dr. Sundar Christopher, Dean of the College of Science; Dr. Beth Quick, Dean of the College of Education; Dr. William Wilkerson, Dean of the Honors College; and Dr. Kristi Motter, Vice President of Student Affairs.

He then discussed several initiatives put into place over the last year to build academic momentum, including enhanced recruiting that has led to a significant increase in applications over 2014, a tuition restructure to improve graduation rates, and the expansion of academic offerings to help graduates meet the changing needs of federal and corporate employers.

He also reviewed several recent changes to the campus infrastructure – the renovation of Roberts Recital Hall, the expansion of the Nursing Building, and the construction of the Severe Weather Institute and Radar and Lightning Laboratories (SWIRLL) – noting as well the upcoming completion of UAH's 90,000-square-foot Student Services Building.

When taken together, concluded Dr. Altenkirch, these initiatives are "building momentum for an institution that has evolved into a national asset in education, research, and service, and provides significant support to the Huntsville area and the state of Alabama."
