Get some much-needed extra rest as you enjoy Sleep Awareness Week during our Spring Break. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that adults aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. If we are not getting enough sleep, our bodies can produce stress hormones that can raise blood pressure and increase arterial inflammation. It can also disrupt the balance of hormones in our bodies including those that regulate appetite and blood sugar. Here are a few helpful tips to help you get a better night's rest:

- avoid caffeine after lunchtime and disconnect from screens and electronic devices at least one hour before bedtime

- establish a consistent sleep schedule, go to bed the same time every night

- create a comfortable sleep environment (dark room at a comfortable temperature)
