Affiliations and Community Partners

The Women's and Gender Studies Program is proud to affiliate with national and regional associations that support the discipline of women's and gender studies, and to partner with local community organizations on events and resources that serve the UAH campus and North Alabama community.

Affiliations

National Women's Studies Association (NWSA)

The UAH Women's and Gender Studies Program is affiliated with the National Women's Studies Association, founded in 1977 as a professional organization committed to promoting the study of women and gender.

Southeast Women's Studies Association (SEWSA)

The UAH Women's and Gender Studies Program is affiliated with the Southeast Women's Studies Association, a regional organization under the National Women's Studies Association, that actively supports and promotes all aspects of women's studies as every level of involvement.

Community Partners

American Association of University Women (AAUW)

AAUW promotes equity for women and girls through its many activities, fellowships, and programs.

AAUW-Huntsville Branch

The Huntsville Branch of AAUW partners with UAH Women's and Gender Studies on many events and activities that promote equity for women and girls, including sponsoring one or more UAH students to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) sponsored by AAUW and held in College Park, MD, each summer.

Asha Kiran

Asha Kiran, which translates to "a ray of hope," is a Huntsville-based non-profit organization that offers free "culturally competent" services in 49+ languages throughout Alabama serving diverse communities.

Crisis Services of North Alabama

CSNA is a private, non-profit agency offering multi-service crisis intervention in North Alabama. CSNA responds to individuals and families in crisis, including domestic violence, sexual assault, suicide prevention/intervention, and information and referral.

PFLAG Huntsville

PFLAG is the nation's largest family and ally organization. Uniting people who are LGBTQ with families, friends, and allies, PFLAG is committed to advancing equality through its mission of support, education, and advocacy.

Thrive Alabama empowers our patients to create a healthy community by providing compassionate, accessible, affordable, comprehensive care.

TransFamily Support Services

TFSS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives by shaping a gender-affirming community. TFSS offers free support groups for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, as well as the parents/caregivers of trans kids of all ages. TFSS also offers free navigation to find gender-affirming care providers and help connect people to relevant legal resources.
