
Assistant Professor in the Department of Education-Reading/Literacy

Visiting Assistant Professor of History (Medieval European History)

REQUIREMENTS: The History Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville is seeking a colleague for a one-year position as visiting assistant professor in medieval European history with a sub-specialization in Mediterranean history or non-Western history. We expect to conduct a search next year to make this a tenure-track position. Teaching responsibilities include freshman world-history surveys and upper-division and graduate courses in the candidate’s specialty. Candidates should have completed the Ph.D. by July 2012, and should have a strong commitment to teaching. The teaching load is three courses per semester.

Baba Budha Eminent Scholar Chair in Global Understanding

REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for the Baba Budha Eminent Scholar Chair in Global Understanding. This position is part of a broader strategic thrust by the University of Alabama in Huntsville to enhance global activities and partnerships and promote greater understanding of global issues by its students and in the broader community.
Candidates are expected to be at the mid-career to senior level and should have a focus in one or more of the following areas: Asian studies, Global Understanding, Effects of Globalization, Political Economy, Political Systems, and Policy Implications and should have specific expertise in Indian studies. The candidate will be expected to create and teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses and seminars for students across the campus.
The selected individual also will be expected to interact with a counterpart at a university in India and serve as a focal point for interaction for the university and broader community. The Eminent Scholar will work closely with the Department Chair, Academic Deans, and Provost in enabling the University’s growth and stature in this area.

Two Assistant Professors in the Department of Sociology

REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Sociology invites applications for two tenure-track positions, both at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 2012. For Position A (log #12/13-356) we are seeking a quantitative sociologist who can teach undergraduate statistics. Substantive areas of specialization are open but we are particularly interested in candidates who could teach Environmental Sociology, and/or other areas that effectively complement the teaching areas of the department faculty and the fit the needs of our program.
For Position B (log #12/13-357) we seek someone who can teach sociological theory. Areas of specialization are open, but in this case we are particularly interested in candidates who can teach either Sociology of Science and Technology, Sociology of Medicine, Social Stratification, or other areas that effectively complement the teaching areas of the department faculty and the fit the needs of our program.
