Today the Theta Pi Chapter heard some great news. Our partnership Philanthropy, Russel Hill Cancer Foundation, set up a special part of their website for donations for ATO’s 20th Annual Basketball Dribble. The Basketball Dribble is where we dribble a basketball from Florence, AL (UNA) to Huntsville, AL (UAH) to raise awareness for cancer. Now it is more convenient than ever to donate money to help fight against cancer. Simply go to this link and click donate and you can donate any amount of money you would like. Every bit helps. ATO does the Basketball Dribble every Spring in memory of our fallen Brother, Paul “Fish” Salmon who was taken from us way to early due to cancer.

This past week was UAHuntsville’s Annual Greek Thanksgiving. Each year, the entire Greek community gets together and puts their differences aside. Also, each Greek Organization must bring some sort of food to the event. This year, ATO brought macaroni and cheese. The Brothers got together at the house 2 hours before the dinner and cooked 24 boxes of macaroni cheese to feed the hungry Greeks that were to attend the dinner. It was nice to get everyone together and share stories.

The results from the annual ATO Turkey Bowl are in, and the final score is 49-7. The winning team included the talents of Alum Jeremy Pope, Brother RJ Brown, Brother Matt Sayar, Friend Tyler Onstott, Pledge Luke Graves, and Brother Chris “Winky” Miller. The defeated team’s names have been withheld to avoid defamation. At the end of the day, everyone had a great time playing our country’s greatest sport after one of our country’s greatest feasts, and we had a good game all around.

Brothers, pledges, and alumni all gathered at Cracker Barrel to come together and celebrate Thanksgiving together. After Anthony Tamez blessed our dinner, we enjoyed our respective meals and traded stories. It was a great time for everyone, and the get-together at the house afterward was a blast. Thanks to all the brothers and alumni who came out!

Because of his outstanding job with guiding the pledges for Help Weekend, and helping us continue to dominate in basketball, and being awesome in general, Jeff Torbic is our Brother of the Week!
Congratulations to the Stormy Stevens, the winner of the ATO Poker Tournament held Tuesday night.
This past weekend, the pledges painted up for the Charger’s hockey game to kick off their help weekend.

Saturday, after the pledges had knocked out some community service, a few bros joined them for a campout in northern Alabama.

Last week some of the brothers and pledges from the Theta Pi chapter helped to work a fall carnival at a local elementary school. There were many activities for the kids, including a ring toss, cake walk, and a moon bounce. I helped supervise the moon bounce and it was a very enjoyable experience. Overall, everyone had a great time, from the children to the brothers working. It was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to help out in our community, and it goes to show that giving my time to the community while hanging out with my brothers is a win-win combination.

We have a squeal night every year for the two sororities on campus. This consists of pledges doing a dance and making gifts for each of the pledge girls of the sororities. This year we decided to make them pillowcases, and this was where the fun began. Me and eight of my pledge brothers came to my house and stayed up nine hours sewing seventy five pillowcases for the girls. I must say in the midst of all our failed attempts we had a lot of fun bonding and goofing off.

Tonight, as part of a UAH club event, ATO teamed together to form three six-man dodgeball teams for a small tournament to raise money for a local charity. I have not had this much fun playing anything at UAH yet. As expected, two teams from ATO met each other in the finals for an all-ATO showdown. Even though all three teams could not win, overall it was a big victory for the club (ACE), the charity, ATO, and ATO getting involved with other campus activities.

My son Patrick is a pledge of the Theta Pi chapter this fall. My biggest worry going into his first semester of college was whether he would be able to balance his studying and his social/fraternal activities. My worries were put to rest when i found out about his mandatory study hours on either Sunday or Wednesday nights. He, along with the rest of his pledge brothers, are required to do two hours per week, otherwise they are not allowed to hang out at the house on the weekends. This was such a great idea on the parts of the brothers of this chapter; it keeps the pledges motivated and wanting to study and succeed in school, as well as it encourage them that for their hard work they can have some fun. Thanks to these study nights, Patrick’s grades are the best they have ever been and he is having the best semester of his life. I would personally like to thank the Theta Pi chapter for keeping my son motivated to do well.
