Evangeline "Vangie" Harris, campus visit coordinator in the Office of Admission & Aid at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), is a recipient of the UAH Staff Excellence Award.

Harris began in her position at UAH in August of 2012. She is responsible for scheduling all weekday campus visit requests, including group tours for 9th-12th graders and transfer students. She also oversees UAH’s Admissions Ambassadors.

"I love working with the Ambassadors and prospective students. Hopefully, I have left an impact on them during their college journey even if in some small way," she says. "UAH has a great community feel which I appreciate and am thankful to be a part of."

Working with so many students in a supervisory position has been rewarding, Harris says.

"It has been such a blessing to watch them grow and be a sounding board when needed, to moving into a professional setting that they worked so hard for," she says. "They are my success stories."

She was "shocked and very humbled" to have been nominated and to receive the award, she says.

"I would like to say how grateful I am to have been nominated for this award. The Admissions Office is most definitely a team and it takes all of us to get the job done. I am very thankful for my director, Peggy Masters, and her leadership, as well as my co-workers."

Harris and her husband, John, have a farm in Russellville where they spend most of their extra time.

"We also have three nephews under the age of 5 that we spend a lot of time with," she says. "I am also an avid reader and love to travel."
