HUNTSVILLE, Ala (September 20, 2012) — The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAHuntsville) Women’s Studies Program is sponsoring the one-act play The Perfect 36, on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., in the Wilson Hall Theatre (room 001). The Bank Street Players of Decatur will perform the play. General admission tickets are $10 each; student tickets $5 and UAHuntsville students are admitted free with valid identification.
The Perfect 36 by Candace Corrigan dramatizes the final days of the 72-year campaign for women’s suffrage in the United States. The performance shows how Tennessee became the 36th and last state necessary to ratify the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote, becoming law on August 26, 1920, now celebrated as Women’s Equality Day.
UAHuntsville Women’s Studies students will offer voter registration before and after the show, and there will also be a question and answer opportunity with the actors following the show. Please call the Women’s Studies Resource Center at 256-824-6210 for advance ticket reservations. Payment is made at the door, where tickets will be held for pick-up. Tickets may also be purchased at the door without advance reservation; however reservations are recommended as seating is limited.
