UAH Establishes Masters Program in Earth System Science

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (March 22, 2012) —The University of Alabama in Huntsville will offer a Master of Science in Earth System Science beginning in the Fall semester of 2012. The University of Alabama Board of Trustees recently gave final approval for the degree program, which had cleared the Alabama Commission of Higher Education last December. The Master of Science in Earth System Science (MSESS)  will be offered through the UAHuntsville College of Science and the Department of Atmospheric Science.

UAHuntsville recently received approval from The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees for its Master of Science in Earth System Science (MSESS).
The new degree will be offered through the UAHuntsville College of Science, and was approved by the Alabama Commission of Higher Education last December.

The MSESS program was created to train master’s level students in research applications at the decision making level. This means that graduate-level students will not only understand earth system processes but need the tools GIS, data analysis, and remote sensing to solve real world problems.

Additionally, the MSESS program will produce graduates supplying work force needs to agencies such as the Alabama Department of Emergency Management, and the Environmental Protection Agency in addition to other state, federal and international agencies requiring robust scientific products to enable policy and decision making in atmospheric and earth science related fields around the world.
