Alash Ensemble, a trio of master throat singers from the Central Asian republic of Tuva, will be performing on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Roberts Recital Hall
on the campus of The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).
Alash performs “My Throat Solo”.
"The opportunity to hear and see an ensemble of this nature and caliber in Huntsville and at UAH is truly astonishing," says Dr. David Ragsdale, chair of
UAH's Department of Music. "Alash's unique throat-singing tradition in combination with Western musical influences will make for an extremely unique
concert experience. The Department of Music is excited to present Alash to the Huntsville music community!"
The ensemble comprises Bady-Dorzhu Ondar, Ayan-ool Sam, and Ayan Shirizhik, all of whom were trained in traditional Tuvan music and are now masters in the
ancient art of throat singing. Since their inaugural U.S. tour in 2006, the trio has become renowned for their ability to work across musical genres,
blending the melodies and instruments of Central Asia with the sound and feel of more contemporary artists like Sun Ra and Jimi Hendrix.
Alash Ensemble's UAH concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.
