Open Enrollment 2017

Annual Open Enrollment for medical, dental and vision insurance, as well as Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA, DCA), begins on Tuesday, November 1 and ends on November 18, 2016 for all benefit eligible employees of UAH. Changes outside of Open Enrollment can only be made due to a life event.

Open Enrollment Key Factors

  • Review The 2017 Open Enrollment Guide under Quick Links.
  • Health insurance premiums will change and include updated salary tier levels and a new category for family coverage.  Review the 2017 Schedule of Premiums under Quick Links.
  • Dental Plans will now be offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.  Premiums will decrease as a result of this change in vendors.
  • Employees only need to respond if they are making a change in health, dental, vision coverage or enrolling in the FSA and/or DCA plans.  Current elections will continue into the new plan year.
  • All elections made during open enrollment will be effective January 1, 2017.
  • Documentation is required to confirm eligibility of dependent(s) not previously enrolled in your insurance plan (Definition of Eligible Dependents and Required Documents).
  • Current Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Care Account (DCA) participants must re-enroll for the 2016 calendar year. 
    If no action is taken, your FSA and/or DCA participation will end December 31, 2016

How to Enroll

  • Single Sign On (SSO) to HR Connection is now available via myUAH.  
    • Click on Login to HR Connection under the Quick Links tab above or
    • Go to my.uah.edu and enter your Charger ID and password. Click on the HR Connection link under the Human Resources Self Service section. 
    • Review the Enrollment User Guide for step-by-step instructions to view or change your current insurance elections.

Health Plan

  • Premium increases and tier level changes will be made to both single and family coverages.
    • Single Coverage - Two salary tier levels will be added.
    • Family Coverage
      • Employee + Dependent Children
      • Family (Employee/Spouse/Dependent Children)

Prescription Drug Plan

  • Annual out-of-pocket (OOP) maximum has been added.
    • $2,250 - individual maximum; $6,750 - family maximum
    • The contract maximum is embedded into the family maximum, so no individual will have OOP cost exceeding $2,250 per calendar year.
  • Drug copays will increase by $5.
  • Tier 4 (Specialty drugs) has been added with an $100 copay.

Dental Plan

Summary Comparsion

  • UAH now offers dental plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama:
    • Access Plus Dental Basic Plan
    • Access Plus Dental Comprehensive Plan
  • Dental premiums will decrease for the 2017 plan year.

Vision Plan 

Summary Description

There are no plan design changes or premium increase for the 2017 plan year.

Flexible Spending Account

  • Flexible Spending Accounts allow you to set aside pre-tax earnings to pay for qualified out-of-pocket medical and dependent care expenses. 
  • You must re-enroll each year to continue participation in the FSA plan.  
  • If no action is taken, your FSA and/or DCA participation will end December 31, 2016.
  • Maximum Annual Elections:
    • Medical: $2,600 per year (maximum allowed under Healthcare Reform)
    • Dependent Care: $5,000 per year ($2,500 for single filers per IRS guidelines)
  • You may carry-over up to $500 of unused health FSA balance from 2016 to 2017.  
    • The health FSA money carried over to the next year may be used only for claims incurred within the new plan year.

Remember

  • Debit card feature allows you to pay for eligible health care expenses at point of service.
  • Deadline for submitting claims for plan year is 90 days after the plan year ends (March 31, 2017).
