Parents & Families
Parent and Family Orientation
Both our First-Time Freshman & Transitions Orientation programs have concurrent Parent & Family orientation because we realize you’re a key portion to your student’s success! These specially designed sessions will help you successfully transition your student to college life.
At Orientation you will...
- Meet with faculty and staff who will provide academic and career counseling for your student
- Discover a full-family of university resources exclusively designed to ensure that your student has a successful college experience
- Finalize all of your student's needs for a successful academic year
- Meet other Charger Family members
- And much more!
If your student is attending a First-Time Freshman Orientation there is on-campus housing available for guests. Please register for on-campus housing when registering for your preferred orientation date. Please note our Transitions Orientations are 1-day events and housing is not provided. If you would like to stay at an area hotel please visit accommodations.
If you or your student have special needs because of a disability, please indicate during orientation registration or call New Student Orientation at 256.824.4720 so we can make appropriate arrangments to assist you during orientation.
How can I help my student prepare?
Help your student prepare by going through the Pre-Orientation Guide together! This guide, along with orientation, will help answer all your questions and complete all the needed steps for a successful enrollment here at UAH. Remind your student that orientation is important to their success. Encourage them to meet other students and take notes during the sessions.
What can I expect at Orientation?
Whether or not you’ve visited UAH previously, New Student Orientation will provide you a lot of new information. Be ready to take notes and ask questions. Orientation is packed with activity. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. There might even be a prize for family members who remember to wear their Charger Blue apparel! Also note that Orientation is a very fun & spirited atmosphere for your student, so don’t be surprise if you see your student singing or dancing with other current students.
Stay Involved through Parent & Family Programs
Orientation won’t be the only programing you see for Charger Parents. You will hear more about the year-around programs and opportunities for you to engage with your student during their academic journey. Make sure you grab information on our Family Weekend!
