Acer circinatum - Oregon Vine Maple
Family - Aceraceae
Size - To 25', with spread equal to or greater than height.
Rate - slow to medium, 1 to 2 feet per year.
Foliage- Palmately shaped leaves, similiar to Fullmoon Maple (A. japonicum) or Purplebloom Maple (A. pseudosieboldianum). Often confused with these species. Fall color is red-orange.
Flower/Fruit/Seed - Samara, red when young, very conspicuous. A common trait on many of the ornamental Maples.
Bark - Green in youth, new shoot growth is reddish.
Pests and Diseases - None noticed
Landscape use - Nice Maple for specimen use, if given ample
room to grow and sufficient moisture. Colorful bark, new growth,
and samara color, add to the interest. May possibly tolerate planters
if given moisture and kept mulched.
Performance - 8 - Performs best if given some afternoon
shade and kept from exposed windy sites. Can tolerate full sun
to full shade, but best Fall color will develop if given afternoon
shade. Wind and full sun causes leaf tatter.
