David Berkowitz named dean of Graduate School at UAH

Huntsville, Ala. (June 3, 2013) - David Berkowitz has been appointed dean of The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Graduate School.

He began his duties as dean on June 1.

"David will lead growth of the Graduate School through strengthening of current programs, developing new, innovative, and inter-disciplinary programs, for students from the Huntsville region as well as those from throughout the U.S. and beyond," said Dr. Robert A. Altenkirch, President of UAH.

Berkowitz previously served as professor of Marketing and Management in the UAH College of Business Administration.

"I'm excited about an opportunity to move our graduate programs forward. The university was founded on the basis of providing graduate education to the professionals in our community and I look forward to expanding that tradition of excellence to future scholars in the region and in the world," said Dr. David Berkowitz, dean of Graduate School.

Berkowitz also served as associate dean, and chair of the Department of Management and Marketing, director of the Center for the Management of Science and Technology, and director of the Integrated Enterprise Laboratory, all in the College of Business Administration. He has experience as a product developer, small business owner and academician. His research has focused on the intersection between product development and supply chain for complex long lifecycle products and has appeared in leading academic journals in the field. Berkowitz was a founding board member of Alabama Launchpad, and has obtained over $5 million in funded research.

He has written and co-authored numerous national and international publications including "Proactive / Responsive Market Orientation and Marketing - Research and Development Integration," "Consumer Marketing of High Technology Products," and "Modeling Market Adoption of a Retail Innovation over Time and Space."

Berkowitz earned his Ph.D. in Marketing and Applied Statistics from the University of Alabama, an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and a B.A. in Accounting from Rutgers University- Camden.
