UAH community invited to Faculty and Staff Clinic open house

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (March 5, 2012) — The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAHuntsville) Faculty and Staff Clinic will host an open house event on Thursday, March 8 from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m. 

Louise C. O'Keefe, director, of the UAHuntsville Faculty and Staff Clinic, will formally introduce new clinic personnel Dr. Darla Cowart, and nurse practitioner Amber McPhail to the UAHuntsville community. O’Keefe also announced new expanded patient care hours at the clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 7:30 a.m., to 4:30 p.m. The patient care hours will remain the same on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. The clinic is located on the first floor of Spragins Hall in Suite 127.

Cowart is a native of Helena (Alabama). She completed her undergraduate studies at University of South Alabama and her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. Cowart serves as the Sport Medicine Fellowship Director at the UAB School of Medicine in Huntsville and is board certified in both Sport Medicine and Family Medicine.

McPhail, graduated from UAHuntsville in 2003 with a master’s degree in nursing and has been practicing as a family nurse practitioner. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and licensed with the Alabama Board of Nursing. She is an active member of North Alabama Nurse Practitioner Association. Before coming to the UAHuntsville Faculty and Staff Clinic, McPhail practiced primary care and women’s health in Huntsville for eight years. Amber also received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UAHuntsville in 2001. She worked at Huntsville Hospital as a RN on the cardiology service for three years.

O’Keefe said UAHuntsville faculty and staff will continue to pay the same $5 co-pay for each visit to the clinic. Additional charges include rapid strep test $5; urinalysis and glucose tests $2; PPD $10 and flu $15 tests; vaccines: Tdap $40 and flu $20.
