Our purpose is to bring an awareness, understanding, and appreciation of women and gender to the students, faculty, and staff of UAHuntsville and to the North Alabama community. We are one of the few interdisciplinary programs on campus, collaborating with faculty in history, literature, psychology, nursing, business management, engineering, sociology, art, and education, just to name a few.
We offer a Women's Studies Minor that UAHuntsville students from all Colleges can complete as a complement to their major programs of study. We also offer and promote many other opportunities for students, including academic scholarships, leadership training, and achievement awards in writing and the arts. Our Women's Studies Resource Center on campus, open to UAHuntsville faculty, staff, and students, and to the community, provides a library with books, multimedia, and other artifacts.
The Women's Studies Program promotes the social awareness of women's and gender issues in the Huntsville and North Alabama communities through our extensive programming and events, including inviting guest speakers to campus, sponsoring and supporting theatre, art, music, and literary events, and creating the "Charged Up for Change! EXPO."
