Undergraduate Major in English
Students wishing to major in English should make that declaration at the beginning of the sophomore year. The English Department office provides forms for this purpose and will let the student choose an advisor or will assign one. Students who wish to pursue teacher certification should choose Curriculum Two, English/Language Arts. For more course information, visit the on-line UAH catalog.

Further requirements and conditions for the major:
One course devoted to the novel
Two courses (6 semester hours) in 400-level courses
One upper level single author course, in addition to Shakespeare
No more than 9 hours of sophomore literature surveys
No more than 9 hours in creative writing
For transfer students, 12 semester hours in upper-level English courses (numbered 300 or above) at UAH
*Note: The following EH courses count as electives in the English major: EH 301, 302, and 401. If English majors use these in the Minor in Technical Writing, they may not be counted toward the major as well.
