Experiential Learning

One of the distinctive features you find throughout the college is a concerted effort to actively engage students in the learning process as much as possible.  This commitment to experiential learning or “hands-on” types of activities can be seen throughout the curriculum.  It may take place in the classroom through things like projects involving local companies, role-playing activities that immerse students in the realization of theory and concept, or extensive written and oral communication.  It may also take place through more formal means such as internships or co-op jobs.  An active internship program gives our students many opportunities to gain valuable real-world work experience while completing their degree.

One of the positive results of a commitment to experiential learning is that it allows a student to graduate with a ready set of practical application skills.  While students at other schools may have heard about it or read about it, many of our students have actually done it.  We believe this makes our students more marketable and able to make immediate, positive contributions to their employers.

Accreditation

The College of Business is accredited by the prestigious AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Organized in 1916, AACSB is the premier accrediting agency for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in business administration and accounting. AACSB supports and encourages excellence in management education worldwide.

To achieve accreditation, business programs must satisfy the expectations of a wide range of quality standards relating to strategic management of resources, interactions of faculty and students in the educational process, and achievement of learning goals in degree programs. Less than 28% of all business schools in the U.S. have received this accreditation.

Recognitions

In 2008, the National Science Foundation ranked the UAH College of Business among the top 10 schools in the nation for federally funded contracts and grants in management and economics.

Accounting graduates from the College of Business have consistently high pass rates on the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.  In fact, in 2008 they had the highest overall rate among state-supported schools in Alabama.

The College of Business has one of the few Information Systems programs in the southeast to have SAP software available for educational purposes.  Since both NASA and the Army Aviation and Missile Command use SAP, our graduates have a competitive advantage for the jobs that require SAP experience.

UAH has been recognized by the National Security Agency (NSA) for its programs and research in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity, naming it a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.

Faculty

Faculty in the College of Business have been recognized across campus and the University of Alabama System for teaching excellence. In 2010, Dr. Brent Wren (Marketing) was awarded the UAH Distinguished Teaching Award, and Dr. Al Wilhite (Economics) has twice been recognized by the University of Alabama Executive MBA students with an Outstanding Faculty Award.

College faculty include distinguished scholars who have been elected to lead some of the most prestigious academic professional associations in the world.
