UAH Logo and Brand Guidelines

The UAH Brand

The logo and identity graphics for The University of Alabama in Huntsville have been revised to establish consistency in branding campuswide and to create a consistent brand experience for the university.

Approved Acronym Usage

  • Spell out "The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH)" upon first usage, making sure to capitalize the “t” in “The”.
  • After the first reference to the university, you may use "UAH" without parenthesis throughout the written material.
  • For pages on the UAH website, it is acceptable to refer to the university as simply "UAH" because the full logo is displayed at the top of each page.
  • Do not refer to The University of Alabama in Huntsville as "UAHuntsville."

Choosing a download format

  • EPS files are best for print. EPS files are vector-based, meaning they can be enlarged to any size without losing quality.
  • PNG files are best for web. PNG files can easily be used in a variety of programs and settings; however, they are raster-based and cannot be enlarged beyond their original size.

Logo Variations

The primary logo should be used when possible. However, occasionally the background color/image or the printing method may require the logo to be displayed in one of the following alternate color schemes. For readability and impact it is important to choose the version that provides sufficient contrast to the background you will be using.

Minimum Spacing

To avoid crowding, a minimum of negative space equal to the height of the university name (shown as x) is required on all sides.

For legibility, the total width of the logo should not be smaller than 1.5" in print, or 108 pixels on screen.

Logo Misusage

Do not change the color of the logo

Do not stretch the logo out of proportion

Do not use the logo smaller than 1.5" or 108px

Do not rotate the logo

Do not encroach on the minimum negative space around the logo

Do not cover or obstruct the logo

Do not apply any effects such as drop shadows to the logo

Do not use a logo that does not provide sufficient contrast with the background

Do not change the typeface, size, or content of the wordmark in the logo

Do not separate parts of the logo or modify the logo in any way

Do not use old versions of the UAH logo

Do not use any logos that read "UAHuntsville"

The brandmark-only UAH logo is used only in circumstances where space is limited and the full logo has already been introduced. To obtain this logo file and permission to use this logo, please contact the UAH Office of Marketing and Communications at omc@uah.edu.

UAH Chargers Logo

The UAH Chargers logo is to be used when advertising UAH Athletics. It is not to be used when advertising the university.

Co-branded logos

Co-branded logos, which are logos for departments or partners of UAH that use all or part of the UAH logo, are created and approved solely by the Office of Marketing and Communications. For more information about co-branded logos, contact omc@uah.edu.

Typography

Avenir is the typeface (font) used in the logo and across the UAH website. It is a sans-serif face with many weights appropriate for everything from titles to body copy. If you do not have access to Avenir you may substitute Helvetica, Arial, or Helios for official stationery.
