Welcome!
Welcome to the Web page of the History Department of the University of Alabama in Huntsville!
The faculty of the department is committed to our students and to teaching excellence, and we are all active researchers, too. Undergraduate students can earn a traditional major or minor in history, and the history faculty also supports interdisciplinary programs in Classical Studies, Women's Studies, and Global Studies. UAHuntsville students can also minor in the department's new Public History minor, and the department is integral to the new Science, Technology, and Society interdisciplinary minor that is under development. The department also has a graduate program in which students can earn a traditional M.A. in history, or earn an M.A. in history and a teaching credential in the Non-traditional Fifth Year program.
We have an active chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, and a Public History Club in which history majors and non-majors interested in history visit historical sites in the vicinity and enjoy other social activities. The department annually offers scholarships to students and assistantships to our graduate students.
Please explore our website for information about our students, our faculty and our program. Past issues of our departmental newsletter also tell more about our history as a department. For current news, please check out our two departmental blogs, "UAH History Events" and "Department News." You can also “like” our department page on Facebook.
If you are applying for a job with our department, please be sure to check out the Information for Job Candidates that we have prepared.
Sincerely,
Andrew J. Dunar, Chair
