Mr. Glenn Dasher

Professor of Art, Sculpture, Drawing

Biography

The creation and evolution of my own work requires the use of a great variety of materials and processes; casting, carving and the machining and fabrication of metal and stone forms. Access to tools and facilities that support these requirements and a thorough knowledge of their use is critical for the smooth flow of ideas and their successful realization. Fortunately, the sculpture studios here at UAH are fully equipped to meet all of my needs and, first and foremost, the needs of our students.

Sculpture courses at UAH are oriented to support formal and conceptual development within a variety of process specific formats. Students are given instruction to guide the development of their ideas within a range of related processes and then they are encouraged to explore the unlimited possibilities created when the artificial boundaries of a process specific curriculum are removed.

While my own research interests lean toward creating "traditional" sculptural forms which emerge from an introspective exploration of the nature of contexts and meaning, my students are encouraged to expand and explore their own interests and ideas well beyond the limits of my own work's aesthetic sphere. The resulting creative environment is exciting and challenging, with unlimited possibilities for individual artistic growth.
