The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is pleased to announce its selection by the U.S. Department of State and its cooperative partner World Learning to host an EducationUSA Academy in the summer of 2017. The EducationUSA Academy provides opportunities for international students to improve their English skills and become more familiar with the U.S. higher education system, with the goal of creating a pipeline to prepare international youth to pursue higher education in the United States.
UAH’s EducationUSA Academy – NASA: From Space to Earth and Beyond – will take place from July 9-30, during which time participants will be able to:
- Improve their English language skills with 20 hours a week instruction focusing on space exploration, Earth systems, and environmental impact in the 21st century
- Gain a thorough understanding of the U.S. university system, including how to apply and choose a major
- Participate in and present a team project with the assistance of a U.S. undergraduate mentor
- Tour the campuses of five U.S. universities
- Enjoy excursions to popular local destinations, including the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and the Southern Environmental Center
They will also have plenty of opportunities to interact with native English speakers and improve their conversation skills by living on the UAH campus and visiting area attractions.
Included in the per person cost of $4,880 are the program and activity fees, lodging and meals (halal, kosher, and vegetarian options available), books and course materials, transportation for university visits and excursions, required health insurance, transportation to and from the airport (does not include airfare or visa fees).
To apply to UAH’s EducationUSA Academy, complete the online application by April 15, 2017. Applicants must be 15-17 years old, non-U.S. citizens, non-native English speakers, and provide official transcripts showing at least three years of middle to high school English language study.
