The UAH Wind Ensemble

The UAH Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. C. David Ragsdale, is the university's premiere wind band. The wind ensemble's repertoire ranges from traditional band classics to ultra-modern works by today's leading composers. The UAH Wind Ensemble rehearses in their NEW Instrumental Rehearsal Hall on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and performs twice per semester for the university community and for various other events throughout the year.

The UAH Jazz Ensembles

The UAH Jazz Ensembles are 16-20 piece bands which focus on contemporary big band literature. The Jazz Ensembles have recently performed internationally, with tours to Sweden & Finland (2001), Cuba (2004), and Puerto Rico (2009). Students in the band develop an understanding of-and experience in-jazz styles, improvisation, and performance techniques. The UAH Jazz Combos number four to eight members while focusing on improvisation and small group jazz. All jazz students gain exposure to a wide variety of jazz styles.

The UAH Pep Band

The UAH Pep Band, directed by Stuart Tankesley, is the university's athletic band. The Pep Band cheers and performs for athletic and university events throughout the year The pep band is open to all students regardless of major or skill level.

Guest Artists

Experiences at UAH include interacting with today's leading artists and composers, including recent visits by acclaimed composer David Maslanka (pictured above), conductor of the US Army Field Band, Col. Tom Palmatier, and jazz artists Gene Aitken and Ray Anderson. In 2010, UAH hosted masterclasses by the Boston Brass, the Imani Winds, the US Army Brass Quintet, and jazz vibraphonist Jerry Tachoir.
