Our history is all about research! Did you know that UAH was founded in part through the efforts of Wernher von Braun, the father of the US Space Program? It was created to serve the advanced study and research needs of professionals who came to Huntsville to help Americaʼs efforts to win the “Space Race” in the 1950ʼs and 1960ʼs.

Compared with similar-sized public universities, UAH ranks #1 in research expenditures in the nation (>$97million). That means there’s a LOT of innovative research going on at UAH and undergraduates have the opportunity to get involved. Even from your first year! You don’t need to be upper division or a graduate student to get started in research, creative projects and experiential learning!

Location is everything! UAH is located in the southeast, nestled between four giant research enterprises. First, Cummings Research Park, the Nationʼs second largest research park and home to Fortune 500 companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, SAIC and others! Second, Redstone Arsenal, home to the United States Army Materiel Command, the Army's Aviation and Missile Command, the Missile Defense Agency of the Department of Defense. Third, HudsonAlpha, a biotech research institute in genomics and forward-thinking entrepreneurs and innovative educators. And finally, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, headquarters for the new Space Launch System (SLS) program.

With some of the top faculty and researchers assembled in one place, UAH is committed to offering undergraduates from Business, Nursing, Engineering, Arts Humanities & Social Sciences and Science the opportunity to get involved in research as a complement to classroom education. BE PART OF THE SOLUTION and help solve some of the most challenging problems facing our world today!
