In Spring 2014, Delta Zeta's Green Fund proposal, "Chargers in the Sun," was approved by the UAH Green Fund Committee. Bridget Searcy, the Delta Zeta Pink Goes Green Chair, and her sister Brittani Searcy are hoping to provide a study area on the central campus greenway with a solar-paneled picnic table.

"We're looking forward to providing students with a nice study area on the greenway, while also helping our campus expand and develop it's green initiatives," explains Bridget.

The table will feature lights, speakers, a monitor for advertising student events, and a charging station for cell phones and laptops- all charged by the sun! Delta Zeta is hoping this step will lead to larger-scale renewable energy projects on campus in the future.

To ensure the best design for the table, Chargers for Sustainability is partnering with ZeroBase Energy, the leading company in man-portable hybrid power solutions and micro-grids. ZeroBase is developing a design team for the project by offering internships to UAH students interested in modern and sustainable product design. The design team will begin developing plans in June, and hopes to have the table installed in the fall when students return to campus.
