Graduate School

Graduate School provides a New Graduate Student Guide.

Arrival and Orientation

  • Most students plan to arrive in Huntsville by mid-August to get situated prior to the start of classes on August19, 2015. This will enable time to consult with your advisor.
  • GRAs technically begin August 11, 2015 but check with your P.I. to confirm.
  • Departmental orientation will be held the week classes begin. (Friday, August 21)


  • Students are encouraged to contact the ATS department chair at for guidance on course enrollment and research areas.
  • GRAs should consult directly with their P.I.

Provisional Admission

Technically, everyone who is currently finishing up their B.S. is considered “provisional” because their full admission hinges upon completion of that degree. Upon graduating, be sure to have your final degree earned transcript sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Your letter from Graduate Admissions may also notify you of additional requirements to fulfill.

International Students

English Language Placement Test (ELPT)

ELPT is required prior to course registration for all students whose native language is not English. Call Testing Services at 256-824-6725 to schedule this test.

Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS)

The UAH Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) is a student-led organization whose purpose is to join together the students from the UAH Atmospheric Science Department through education, research, outreach, and social events.
