The UAH Bachelor of Arts or Science in Professional Studies is an interdisciplinary program designed to meet the needs of working professionals and adult students, balancing academic rigor with flexibility and value. The degree is designed for adults who have prior college and/or work experience, but have yet to obtain a four-year degree. The program offers a well-rounded education through an interdisciplinary curriculum with established concentration areas that provide an alternative pathway for adults to complete a bachelor's degree. Available Concentrations Include: Organizational Studies — Available Online — Organizational Studies Prepare for careers that involve finding solutions to human problems in organizations and communities. Coursework will focus on business (emphasis on management and information systems) and humanities/social sciences (emphasis on communications, philosophy, political science, psychology, education, and/or sociology). The depth curriculum will include organizational theory and behavior, professional ethics, management, information systems, individual and group dynamics, and communication skills. Students will acquire an understanding of human behavior in groups, organizations, and larger systems. Leadership Strategies and Dynamics — Available Online — Leadership Strategies and Dynamics Develop an understanding of foundational leadership theory in your chosen context. Focus on the nature of leadership in a variety of settings and prepare for leadership responsibility in the community and in your selected profession. Coursework will focus on business (emphasis on leadership and management) and social sciences/humanities (emphasis on communications, history, philosophy, political science, psychology, and/or sociology). Courses will provide an educational experience in theories of motivation, leadership styles, organizational and group behavior, professional ethics, communication, theories of cultural difference and multicultural communication, human resources, and/or budgeting. Technology, Science and Society Technology, Science and Society Integrate the study of science, engineering and/or technology with its social and cultural impact on humanity. Coursework will focus on developing a broad understanding of the technical, historical and social dimensions of science and technology. Curriculum options include engineering, the natural sciences, computer science, information sciences, business, the social sciences, and/or humanities. The curriculum provides an interdisciplinary approach to explore the significance, challenges and effects that science and technology present to society. What are the admission requirements for the Bachelor in Professional Studies? For admission to the College of Professional and Continuing Studies, applicants must meet the following requirements: Meet general admission requirements at the undergraduate level for UAH. Students with fewer than 24 credit hours will need to submit their high school transcript or a General Education Development (GED) certificate. The minimum GED score required for admission for those taking the test after January 1, 2014 is 170. Those who have taken the GED prior to January 1, 2014 are required to have a score of 500. Those who took the exam prior to 2002 are required to have a score of 50. If a student has been out of high school less than 5 years, ACT/SAT scores are required. Students with more than 24 hours must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on all college coursework taken at a regionally accredited institution. How many of my transfer credits will you accept? How many of my transfer credits will you accept? Eligibility of transfer credits depend upon the subject matter of each credit and accreditation status for the institution awarding each credit. Not all transferable classes are applicable to the Professional Studies degree program. A maximum of 60 semester hours from a junior, community, or two-year college may be transferred. Exceptions require written approval from the dean of the college. Students may transfer an unlimited number hours, with the exception of technical, remedial, vocational, and orientation credits, from an accredited four-year institution. UAH requires that 25% of total requirements and 12 of the final 18 degree hours be completed with UAH courses. While many courses may be offered in either online or hybrid formats, there are some that require students to attend on campus. We are aware that most of our students need classes that are flexible to meet professional or personal schedules so we work with each student individually to create a class schedule each semester that fits their needs.
