Robust Thin Film Color Filters Using Silicon and Metal Docket: UAH-P-15013, 16007 Technology Researchers at UAH have invented a low-cost color filter technology using silicon and metal thin films. The invented color filters have low manufacturing cost and are more robust and durable against high-temperature and high-radiation harsh environments than existing chemical dye-based color filters. These color filters maintain their color regardless of viewing angle. The new technology has many potential applications, such as electronic displays, signage, decorations, anti-counterfeit, solar cells, and biosensors. This technology utilizes abundant and inexpensive materials in nature to create colors. Therefore, they are intrinsically low cost. Vivid colors can be put on any object, flat or curved. The following picture shows different color filter devices viewed under sunlight.
