Internal Extrusion Slot Angle Bracket

UAH-P-14007-Internal Extrusion Slot Angle Bracket

Docket: UAH-P-14007

Technology

Metal extrusion is commonly used in manufacturing and construction. However, there is currently no way to connect extrusion at non-standard angles without the use of soldering/welding, which can be inconvenient and aesthetically undesirable.

Researchers at UAH have developed a simple, yet useful Internal Extrusion Slot Angle Bracket that can hold extrusion together at standard and unique angles, such as 45 or 30 degrees. One bracket can only be used on one specified angle; each bracket would be machined to a particular angle based on the customer's needs. The bracket design allows for the use of extrusion slots, sliding into the slots without sticking outside of the extrusion, whereas bulky external brackets do not. This bracket can be used in any application involving aluminum extrusion.

Applications

  • Manufacturing
  • Construction
  • Any application that uses extrusion

Advantages

  • Does not require soldering/welding
  • Can be match drilled and fastened together or press fitted into the extrusion with everyday accessible tools, so anyone can use
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Cost effective fabrication (can extrude profile and cut to size or machine in CNC with minimal steps)
  • Allows you to create more extensive designs with the extrusion

Status
