Promoting the DNP Role through Dissemination of Clinical Scholarship

The University of Alabama in Huntsville, College of Nursing, The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing and The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing invites DNP students to join us for an intensive focused on dissemination of clinical scholarship for the DNP professional. This intensive offers opportunities to learn from nationally recognized speakers, network with faculty, and fellow students and present findings from DNP Projects.

Speakers

Charon Pierson PhD, GNP, FAANP, FAAN

Dr. Pierson has been a nurse since 1965 and is a geriatric nurse practitioner. She has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sociology and a post-doctoral education in gerontology. She has held academic positions in schools of nursing and medicine, as well as appointments to clinical practice and administration in geriatrics.

She is Editor Emeritus of Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and is an elected member and secretary/trustee of the Governing Council of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). She was the founding editor of Nurse Practitioner Forum, which is no longer published. Dr. Pierson is highly qualified to speak about the ethical expectations of DNP authors who submit manuscripts to journals.

Nancy K. Lowe, CNM, PhD, FACNM, FAAN

Dr. Lowe is Professor at University of Colorado, College of Nursing. Previously she was a Professor at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR and at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. Since 2001, she has served as editor-in-chief of JOGNN, Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing. Dr. Lowe earned her diploma in nursing from West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing in Oak Park, IL; a baccalaureate from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL; a master’s in Maternal-Child Nursing from Northern Illinois University; a PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago; and a postmaster’s certificate in midwifery from the Frontier School of Midwifery & Family Nursing in Hyden, KY. She has published more than 65 peer-reviewed scientific papers in a wide variety of nursing, midwifery, medical, and interdisciplinary journals and has over 80 other publications including editorials and book chapters.
