Research Areas

  • Nanophotonics : Electrical and optical control of energy flow in nanostructure assemblies; coherent control of optical properties of nanostructures; optics of colloidal nanocrystals; optics of semiconductors with engineered interfaces at monolayer level; plasmonic control of nonlinear effects in nanostructures.
  • Novel semiconductor optical devices and laser systems:Design and development of novel laser systems and semiconductor optical devices, tunable lasers, multi-task semiconductor chips based on quantum optics of quantum wells, wires and dots.
  • Development and design of 1.3 and 1.5 um semiconductor lasers for un-cooled applications; quantum dot lasers systems; Nitrid-based semiconductor compounds; complex-coupled DFB lasers.
  • Semiconductor materials and quantum optics: Electromagnetically induced transparency, coherent enhancement and suppression of refractive index, coherent populations trapping, etc. in excitonic systems and intersubband transitions in semiconductor quantum wells, wires, and dots. Coherent control of spontaneous emission and dark line effects in excitons and structural control of optical properties of semiconductors using strain.
  • Functional/active photonic band gaps: Application of quantum coherence in quantum wells and wires to generate, destroy or enhance photonic band gaps using a laser field; coherent control of localized electromagnetic modes in photonic crystals; active polaritonic photonic band gap structures.
