Library Operations and Materials

The Salmon Library building is physically closed as of March 20, 2020 at Noon. It will remain closed until further notice.

The library's online resources are available for UAH students, faculty, and staff and the library continues to provide support for the campus remotely. There are a number of ways to contact us, see Contacting the Library, below.

Fines may not be paid at this time. If you wish to check the status of your library account, you may use our Primo Pathfinder account tool. Sign in with your UAH credentials. If you have any questions about your account, email us at library@uah.edu

Please note that due dates for currently borrowed items will be pushed forward to April 6. Those wishing to return books may use our book drop near our front entrance. Please wait to return your ILL books until the UAH library is reopened and is back to normal operations.  All overdue fees will be waived for ILL books.

The Salmon Library will be closed, as planned, for Spring Break. Online services remain available but there will be a delay in response by library personnel.

  • For research/reference questions, contact the Research Help Desk by email at refdesk@uah.edu or through online chats and LibAnswers at https://libanswers.uah.edu. Chat will be available Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm (except Spring Break). For those needing One-on-One Research Consultations, we can schedule a video conference appointment.
  • For questions for the UAH Archives and Special Collections, contact Archives by email at archives@uah.edu, or through their chat found at https://uah.edu/archives. Chat will be available Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. See “Archives and Special Collections,” below, for more information.

Research and Reference Help

We will be maintaining remote tools for you reach us if you need help with your research and general refernce help: LibChat, email, and One-on-One Reference Consultations.

LibChat, accessible by the button to the right, through https://libanswers.uah.edu, and in many of our databases such as Primo Pathfinder. It will be monitored Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, except during Spring Break.

Our email, refdesk@uah.edu, will be checked regularly and is the best way to reach us outside of the above hours.

If you need longer, more detailed help and would like to communicate directly with a librarian, then One-on-One Research Consultations allow you to set up a specific day and time (generally within the Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, [except Spring Break] range, though exceptions might be possible). We have a variety of tools including Zoom and Google Hangouts to set up a remote, "face to face" video conference session.

Library Instruction

With the move to remote access, faculty may want students to receive help as a class with accessing our online/remote resources. If you are an instructor and would like to schedule such a remote session for your class or for yourself, contact Michael.Manasco@uah.edu or use our library instruction request form. If you are a student and would like help, personally, see the Research and Reference Help section, above.

Archives and Special Collections

Special Collections and Archives can be reached by reference chat Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm, or via email at archives@uah.edu. The quickest way to contact individual faculty and staff in the archives is via email to their individual email account (see Staff Directory under “About” in the menu). Messages left on our work phones will be returned as promptly as possible. We can arrange for individual consultations via Zoom as needed. While the archives is physically closed to the public, we can still answer many reference questions and provide faculty, staff, student, and community requests about our holdings. During the university scheduled Spring Break holiday from March 28-April 5, we will be out of the office.

Interlibrary Loan

Please wait to return your ILL books until the UAH library is reopened and is back to normal operations.  All overdue fees will be waived for ILL books.

During this time, journal article requests will still be honored. Book requests will not be filled while UAH has suspended face-to-face instruction.  Please submit book requests when the university is back to normal operations.

Articles requests submitted during Spring Break (Saturday, March 27, 2020 to Sunday, April 5, 2020) will be submitted on Monday, April 6, 2020.
