Emily Eichhorn Dir, Counseling Services, UAH Counseling Center Biography Ms. Eichhorn is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Alabama. She graduated from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. While in undergrad, Ms. Eichhorn was a very engaged in school athletics, Panhellenic, and her sorority. Ms. Eichhorn later earned her Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Alabama A&M University. She has been providing continuous care to children, teens, adults, and their families for over 20 years. After moving back to Huntsville, Ms. Eichhorn began her career and began a family. She is very active in her local community and recreational sports organizations. Ms. Eichhorn has gained her clinical experience in various settings, including inpatient and outpatient treatment centers. She began her career working in a residential treatment facility for adolescents, and held various positions throughout her tenure allowing her the opportunity to broaden her skills in group and individual therapy dealing with a variety of issues. Later, she worked in a hospital setting allowing giving her extensive experience in crisis intervention with clients of all ages and a broad spectrum diagnosis. Additionally, she had the opportunity to work with a variety of substance abuse programs with clients of all ages. Over the years, Ms. Eichhorn has been able to train and offer psychological assessment/testing to clients. She has had experience with clients of various socioeconomic, age, and gender differences having interpersonal problems, GLBTQ transitions, grief and trauma issues, academic development matters, and emotional/behavioral concerns. Ms. Eichhorn has been dedicated to improving the lives of families in the Huntsville community and has been heavily involved in community groups that have centered on creating positive mental health for clients and their families in the Tennessee Valley. She has served on the Huntsville Child Care Board, been a board member for the Council on Services for Youth & Children for over 7 years, and a member of Children’s’ Policy Council. She has volunteered for other community organizations such as the Huntsville Police Citizens’ Foundation, Madison County Mental Health Association and the Madison County Juvenile Court Task Force for Mental Health. She is an active member of civic, national, and state organizations in the community, including Women’s Economic Development Council and the Alabama Counseling Association. Services: Ms. Eichhorn views counseling/therapy as a personal journey of self-exploration to enhance a client’s sense of self-worth and to function successfully in today’s culture. Clients need to grow in their level of self-understanding and self-awareness. As a counselor, she does not act as a self-appointed expert, but rather a guide to enhance the experience and allow the clients to gain insight and new tools to gain a more positive outlook on life and their general situation. She strives to offer new perspectives to her clients and help identify, develop, and mobilize a client’s resources to successfully solve their own problems and meet the challenges they face head on.
