Offered through Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UAH

Alabama's indigenous history can be traced back more than 10,000 years, but sometime around 1000 CE, a new culture - the Mississippian - arrived. These people, located primarly in the southeast and midwestern portions of the present-day U.S., were known for building large, earthen platform mounds. Then mysteriously, they were gone, leaving only earthen pyramids behind. This course will examine that culture in terms of the archaeology of Moundville. (A complimentary field trip, registered separately, to the Moundville Archaeological Park, will provide further insight into this fascinating culture.) This course will be recorded.
