Leading in the Intergenerational Workforce Conference/Lecture Monday, September 12, 2022 76 days from nowMultiday event - 0 days 8:30 AM 4:30 PM Wilson Hall On-Campus For the first time in history, there are five generations in the workplace, each seeing the world and interpreting their experiences in very different ways. A Baby Boomer taking orders from a manager half their age. A Gen Xer building camaraderie with team members whose on-the-job experience amounts to no more than a summer internship. A Traditionalist working alongside coworkers young enough to be their grandkids. These types of situations are becoming more common. This generational shift is transforming workplace dynamics and leaving managers unsure of how to lead a group of employees who are, in some cases, nearly five decades apart in age. At the same time, it presents employers with an unprecedented opportunity to harness new levels of innovation and collaboration. The standard “this is how we’ve always done it” approach will not work when dealing with a multigenerational group of employees. Employers must figure out how to create advancement opportunities for their younger workers (or risk losing them) while still engaging their older employees whose skills they need. Starting with leaving generational stereotypes at the door, an employer can encourage their employees by using such tactics as reverse mentoring, upskilling, and collaboration. In this course, learn how to leverage differences, find common ground, and celebrate the strengths of a multi-generational team. Compare and contrast the differences between generations, their values, and their work preferences Respond to these differences in ways that enhance employee and organizational success Learn to build unity around common purposes and organizational goals Instructor: Jason Parks Register Here > For more information, contact PDSolutions@uah.edu or 256.824.4430.
