The North Alabama Section (NAS) and the UAH Student Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is pleased to welcome Ms. Martavia Lucious (Parsons Corporation), Ms. Lisa McCollum (NASA-MSFC), and Mr. Danny Vaughn, P.E. (Orion Engineers and Constructors) as our guest speakers for the annual "Lunch with the Professionals: Guidance and Advice for Young Engineers" presentation. Brief bios are provided below.

Martavia J. Lucious currently serves as a Systems Analyst for Parsons Corporation located here in Huntsville, AL. She supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Industrial Base and Manufacturing Team on Redstone Arsenal. Her daily activities include monitoring and assigning incoming tasks as well as supporting funded projects to address risks, supply chain issues, and emerging technologies. Martavia also serves on Parsons’ Early Career Development Representative team for the Huntsville region to assist with bridging the gap between senior managers and younger employees. Martavia graduated from The University of Alabama in Huntsville where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in December 2018.

 

Lisa McCollum is a lead engineer in solid propulsion systems at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Mrs. McCollum grew up in Lincoln County, Tennessee and graduated from UAH with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 2010. At MSFC, she leads a team that is responsible for Space Launch System (SLS) Booster ignition and separation, Europa Lander De-Orbit Stage, in-space solid and hybrid propulsion, and gas generation systems among others. Her background in solid propulsion and systems engineering includes leading an in-house design for a sounding rocket sustainer motor, serving as Abort Motor lead for the Orion Launch Abort System, and leading a system trade study for the Mars Sample Return Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV). In addition to her NASA duties, she is a member of the North Alabama section of ASME and values volunteering her time for STEM outreach.

 

Danny Vaughn, PE, is a 35+ year career engineer and manager currently employed as Vice President of Business Development and Construction Services for Orion Engineers & Constructors, a mid-size, multi-market consultant and general contractor headquartered in Mobile, Alabama.  Danny started his career as a draftsman (yes drafting board era) for Ingalls Iron Works in Birmingham, Alabama and progressed as design engineer, project engineer, depart manager, project manager, construction manager, and vice president at several southeastern engineering consulting and construction companies including Rust International, formerly of Birmingham.  Danny is currently the section chair of the ASME Mobile-Gulf Coast Professional Section which has recently been re-organized.  He received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Auburn University. Danny is married to Holly Vaughn --  they live in Pensacola, Florida, and have 4 grown sons, and 3 grandchildren. They love hiking in Colorado, Utah, and Arizona and relaxing on the Gulf Coast beaches.
