The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Dance Team is pleased to invite you to our Dance Team tryouts on Friday, March 8, 2019, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm, in the Conference Training Center (CTC) Exhibit Hall located at 1410 Ben Graves Drive, Huntsville, AL 35899.  All participants must attend tryouts in order to be considered for the team.

Being a member of the UAH Dance Team has many rewards and is a valuable experience.  Dancers will demonstrate pride to UAH’s campus and the Huntsville community through their participation on this team.  

The Dance Team performs at halftime for men and women’s basketball games, hockey games, and various on and off-campus events upon request.  The team also attends summer camp and at least one (1) competition.  Dance team members are required to participate in all scheduled events.

To apply, complete the online form.  There will be a $25 non-refundable application fee and a university release and indemnity agreement must be completed for each participant.  If you are under the age of 19 years old, a parental signature is required. 

Students wishing to try out for the dance team must:

• Be an enrolled UAH student or in the process of applying to UAH
• High school seniors and transfer students must be admitted to UAH prior to June 30th
• Must be enrolled for the entire term for the fall and spring semester
• Must be available to attend summer camps and workshops (to be determined)
• Must exhibit enthusiasm, CHARGER SPIRIT
• Enjoy dance and entertainment
• Must maintain a 2.5 or better cumulative and semester GPA

Tryout Attire:

• Dance Shoes
• Crop top or fitted tank
• Suggested Colors: Blue, Black, White
• Hair & Makeup styled for a performance

• Single, Double, Triple Pirouette
• Splits (left and right)
• Fouette or turns a la seconde
• Axle Turn
• Calypso
• Barrell Leap
• Switch Leap
• Center Leap
• Leap (left and right)
• Toe Touch
• High Kick Skills
• Leg Hold
• Each Participant will have the opportunity to display any special skills

In addition to the skills, you will learn a 30-second hip hop, pom, and jazz routine to perform for the judges.

The dance team application, waiver, and application fee must be submitted on or before tryouts in order to participate.  Please keep in mind tryouts are closed to the public.
