Who can participate?

Any student or team of students at UAH can rock the Design Challenge.

How does the Design Challenge (DC) work?

The DC has two rounds:

The Qualifying Round is open to any student at UAH. We are looking for unique solutions to solve your day-to-day life on campus.

Entries must be in the form of a hand or technical drawing or 2D/3D CAD files. No physical object is required. A panel of independent judges will score all entries. The top five - eight designs will be selected for the Grand Finale Round.

In the Grand Finale Round, designs must be fabricated or made using materials (such as metal, 3D prints, paper mache, cardboard, clay etc.) and resources that are available to students either on campus or in the community (such as workshops, labs, or makerspaces). These designs will be presented to judges at an event at the I²C. Top 3 designs / presentations win CASH.

What are the judging criteria?

Relevance and applicability to the objective: Is the design solving an actual problem of dorm life?

Practicality: Does the design effectively solve the problem?

Usability: Is the design intuitive and easy to use?

Fabricability: Is it possible to actually make the design?
